The annual Leading Nutrition Professional Development Day was held in June 2017. As always, it was a great opportunity for all the national team to get together and keep up to date on a range of aged care nutrition topics.
All Leading Nutrition dietitians are Accredited Practicing Dietitians (APDs). They are committed to undertake ongoing training and continuing professional development programs to ensure that they remain an expert and credible source of nutrition information. When you work with an APD you can be confident that your nutrition advice and service are coming from a qualified nutrition professional.
This year we had several internal and external presenters that led to interesting discussions and made this day a very valuable experience!
Emma Campos (Dr Jill Lesic & Associates Speech Pathologist) explained all about the IDDSI guidelines.
Louise Becroft (Senior Dietitian at Alfred Hospital) discussed enteral nutrition in aged care, focusing on appropriateness of PEG feed in aged care and transitioning between feeding methods.
Sally Voukelatos provided a fascinating update on the National Allergy Strategy (read more on Food Allergy in aged care here)
Our WA Leading Nutrition Dietitian Julie Glyde, who is not only an APD dietitian but also an expert aged care chef, presented on the developing field of aged care food service products
Jacques Morin, from Phoeniks Pty Ltd, gave us an enthusiastic insight on FlexiCombi ovens, extraordinary pieces of equipment.
